Have you ever taken the time to place a drop of water that comes from your tap under a microscope? You can pick up a microscope for as little as thirty bucks and may even get one for under ten at a local yard sale. It may be worth the investment. If you could actually see what is swimming around inside the water you drink and cook with, it might just spur you to have your water tested. The reason you might want to have your water tested is that many things could potentially be using your drinking glass as a luxury swimming pool. Everything from bacteria and viruses to harmful chemicals and lead.

If your water comes out of the tap all brownish or otherwise discolored it may be obvious that you need to look into things. The problem is that even if the liquid is crystal clear there may still be concerns. There is only one 100% certain way to be sure if your water is all it is cracked up to be and that is to test it. Testing drinking water is particularly important for those drawing their water from a well since it is incredibly easy for harmful chemicals or organisms to seep into well water. If you feel secure because your water arrives from your local water utilities treatment plant you may be experiencing false confidence. Utility companies are routinely investigated and often fined for not obeying regulations. If the area in which you live is subject to heavy rains you are definitely at risk for the adverse effects of water runoff, which can lead to a degradation in the quality of the treatment of the facility's water. And once the water leaves the facility it becomes subject to any number of potential contaminants, including those caused by your own pipes.
