Former president Ronald Reagan made July National Ice Cream Month in 1984. Ice cream is big industry in the United States. The Ice Cream Industry makes about twenty-one billion dollars a year. About ninety percent of Americans here is the United States eats ice cream! Not only do Americans love ice cream but also so do our pets.

Ice cream for pets has really taken off as an industry. A lot of ice cream places now offer pet friendly ice cream with little doggy bones on the side. Ice cream is a large part of the American culture. Many people await the opening of ice cream stands in New England after long cold winters. Ice cream and cake are partners at a lot of parties and celebrations. There is also ice cream pie and ice cream cake; do not forget the fried ice cream. It comes is all shapes and sizes, pints, quarts, gallon and in gallons. Ice cream usually has its own isle at the grocery store; most fast food places have ice cream treats. Then there are places that serve ice cream first food second such as Dairy Queen.

Ice cream has accessories, like hot dogs do. Think about all the stuff you can buy that is made to put on your ice cream. You have ice cream cones, bowels, flavored syrups, sprinkles, nuts, caramel, marshmallows, and the list could go on and on. So where did ice cream originate from, how did all this start?

There are records of ice cream existing as early as 4th century B.C. Historians have found records of Roman emperor Nero ordering ice with fruit on it. The King Tang of China started creating methods of ice and milk mixtures. Ice cream started in China, and then was brought back to Europe and last but not least America.
Former famous Americans such as George Washington and Thomas Jefferson would serve ice cream to their guests. I think that is could not be more fitting then to have Ronald Regan proclaim July as National Ice Cream Month!

Where was the first ice cream place in America? New York City opened its first ice cream parlor in 1776. The term ice cream came from iced cream, as Americans we love to shorten phrases. Ice cream has exploded across the country and can still be bought at parlors and stands.
