How to Make a Preschool Coloring Page Quilt

Preschool children need to have some kind of activity to occupy their minds and hands. Many of the children that fall into this age range love to create things.

There is a craft that you can get your preschool-aged child to help you with. They can help you create a quilt through coloring pages for you. Coloring is a great way for a preschool child to start mastering their motor skills.

You can print out large print coloring pages from sites like funschool.kaboose.com and abcteach.com. These two particular sites allow you to print right from their sites.

You will need the following items for this craft project. The amount of coloring pages and material will depend on the size of the bed you are making the coloring page quilt for.

Fabrics. You will need enough material for at least nine 8.5 x 11 inch squares, for the borders around each block, and the quilt top. You can use a sheet for the backing of the quilt.

Batting. You will need a large enough roll of batting to fill the inside of the quilt.

Coloring Pages. The coloring pages can be found at the two sites listed above or by doing a search on preschool coloring pages.

Crochet Thread or Yarn. One small spool or skein will work for this quilt and craft project.

Have the preschool aged child color the coloring pages while you are working on cutting out the blocks and borders for the quilt. Once they have finished coloring the sheets, scan the coloring pages onto your computer. If you do not have a scanner, a printing shop may be able to scan them to a CD for you. The blocks should be at least three inches wide for the block borders. The outer border will need to be at least six to eight inches wide.

Once you have the pictures on your computer, load your computer printer with iron-on transfer paper. Start printing out each of the pictures.

Iron the pictures onto the squares you cut out for them. Let the ironed on pictures cool before continuing on to the next step.

Sew the squares to the borders with a quarter inch seam allowance. Press the seam allowances open. Sew each of the blocks together. Press the seam allowances open.
