You may notice that if you haven't maintained your pool for a while, it becomes less appealing in sight and feel. Your eyes hurt more and your skin tends to dry and prune up immediately. You don't have to spend hundreds of dollars just so you can properly keep the water immaculate for swimming. There are a few simple factors that you have to check at least once a week so you know what you have to add or eliminate. Here are some helpful tips on how to keep your swimming pool fresh and clean.
1. Chlorine. Chlorine functions as a decontaminant in your swimming pool. It contains active ingredients that immediately destroy organisms which give your pool a dirty appearance. However, you must slowly and constantly add chlorine to your pool to avoid high concentrations that are also very irritating once they come in contact with the eyes and skin. Be careful when placing chlorine tablets in your skimmer. It is advisable to use floating and automatic feeders.
2. pH. The pH level of your swimming pool should range from 7.2 to 7.6. Very high pH makes the water highly acidic which is very irritating for swimmers. It also damages your pipes, sanitizer and other pool equipment. One hint that indicates your pool is acidic is seeing scale buildup on the pool's tile floor. Also, the water's alkaline level also has to be monitored A very low ph level can damage pool equipment. The alkaline materials you add to your swimming pool balance the pH of the water so fluctuations can occur with wrong application. Normal alkaline levels range from 80 to 150 ppm.
3. Calcium. Normal calcium levels range from 175 to 225 ppm. High amounts of calcium can corrode your pipes and pool equipment. It also tends to give your pool a cloudy appearance, removing the clear appearance you maintain and aids the progression of substance buildup. Checking your swimming pool's calcium levels once a year is adequate. You may want to hire a professional to have an accurate reading.
