Jack the Ripper

Jack the Ripper is arguably the most infamous serial killer of all time. And if for whatever reason you are not familiar with Jack the Ripper, he killed and mutilated five women over a century ago. As a matter of fact even if you had no idea of who Jack the Ripper was, I am almost certain you have heard the name. Anyhow, people are fascinated with serial killers and what makes them do what they do. However, it is rather odd that Jack the Ripper almost certainly takes first place amongst infamous serial killers because he has only five known victims. This day in age his crimes would not make the first five pages of the newspaper. Dennis Rader, the Bind, Torture, Kill, murderer had at least ten victims. John Wayne Gacy had killed at least thirty-three victims. Finally, Gary Ridgway also known as the Green River Killer admitted to 48 counts of murder although many people believe there were many more victims. None of those serial killers never had and never will receive as much attention as Jack the Ripper. There are thousands of articles about Jack the Ripper. There are supposedly right around one thousand books about him as well as several movies. So why is there so much fascination with Jack the Ripper? Probably because it is a classic whodunit mystery. A man comes out in the middle of the night on at least five separate occasions and kills and mutilates women outside in the open and no one ever seen a thing. The killer never left any clues. Therefore, the killer was never caught. Many theories exist about who the Ripper was and some seem more plausible than others. But before I delve into the theories and the suspects, here is a brief version of the Jack the Ripper crimes.
