Tancredo for President Campaign Launches Search for Iowa's Idol

Finalists Will Perform at the Iowa Straw Poll Event

The Tancredo for President Campaign announced last week the beginning of a search for "Iowa's Idol." The search will continue through July 23.

Bay Buchanan, senior advisor for the Tancredo for President Campaign, commented how excited she is about the upcoming event. Buchanan stated, "We are delighted to sponsor this event in the hope that we will encourage young people to become involved in national politics at an early age, and help them understand the importance of the Iowa Straw Poll in American Politics."

According to Alan Moore with the Tancredo Headquarters in Vienna, Virginia the Straw Poll Event will be held at the Tancredo Tent near Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa on August 11. All young Iowans, 17 and under, are invited to send a demo tape (DVD or VHS) showing their musical ability prior to July 23 to Barbara Hayward, Tancredo for President, 501 Church Street, Vienna, Virginia 22180. Entries will be reviewed and evaluated by an impartial committee and the top ten contestants will be invited to appear and perform at the Iowa Straw Poll Event where they will be judged by a panel of three celebrity judges along with audience participation. The identities of the celebrity judges have not been released. The winners of "Iowa's Idol" will be announced at the Straw Poll Event on August 11.

Each finalist will receive a minimum of $100 and have a photo op with Congressman Tancredo (R-CO). The second runner up will receive $250, the first runner up will receive $500 and the grand prize winner will receive $1,000.
