Blockbuster Online Vs. Netflix

Which is Better for You?

It's always interesting, especially in this day and age, when something new comes along. With the birth of the internet, the idea of marketing and customer interaction is more prevalent then ever. The media entertainment has boomed in the last 50 years. From monochrome film, all the way
to high definition, it's an industry that has evolved and kept up with the masses. Over the last ten years, movie rental business, lead mostly by the video rental chain, Blockbuster, has lead the market of video rental services. Offering a large amount of in-store videos for its customers, Blockbuster has become a household name when it comes to those boring Friday nights. However, with the ever popularity of online services, other "alternative" businesses have sprung up. One such company is Netflix. A monthly charged service that permits customers to access their movie database, select the films they wish to receive, and have them mailed to their house in about a one business day. Much like in any business, competitors came to the front lines. Blockbuster launched its own online video rental service, "Blockbuster Online". A company with a similar service, pay a monthly fee, select you're films, have them delivered at you're house. However, beneath these similarities, differences are there. Being a customer of both services, I've tested out each of their abilities and have drawn my conclusions about both services. The following is what I've arrived at:

The positives of Netflix

1. Ease of use website. Netflix truly offers a "click and go" style of operation. The only true typing you will do is when you are signing up for the service, and when you are searching for you're movies.

2. Customer Service. Netflix has a very easy customer service operations setup. I've only had 1 damaged DVD, I filled out a "damage report" and sent the movie back to Netflix. I also e-mailed them for good measure. My replacement DVD arrived a day ahead of schedule.

3. Huge movie selection, over 80,000 titles.

Here's my decision tree for the 2 services: 1) IF you have a local Blockbuster store, you should sign-up for Blockbuster Total Access 2) If you DONT'T have a Blockbuster store near you, you should NEVER sign-up for Total Access, but should consider their BY MAIL plans. 3) If you like to watch esoteric, non-mainstream movies, you should sign-up for Netflix. Blockbuster is the favored online plan, but you should know the different price points. And you should compare the BB BY MAIL plan to NetFlix http://www.essistme.com/2007/07/11/comparing-blockbuster-total-access-vs-blockbuster-by-mail-only-vs-netflix/
