Alleviating Stress and Maintaining Energy

If you suffer from fatigue at various parts of the day, or even consistent experience fatigue and lethargy, like me, at specific times of the day, consider modifying your daily routine to boost your energy level. Like many active adults, I, too, suffer from fatigue and lethargy, especially in the ea
rly afternoon period.

In an effort to boost your energy throughout the day, and avoid the afternoon blues or late night binge eating, it is important to keep your energy level moving all day from the time you wake up until the time you go to bed. To do this, you must practice a disciplined schedule, which is relatively easy to follow, each morning, noon and night.

First, always awake at the same hour each day. Without regard to your work schedule, and including your days off, awake at the same time. Shower first thing in the morning and try to shower in an area that is full of light. If your bathroom does not allow for natural light to shine in, consider installing custom lighting in your bathroom to boost your alertness in the morning hours.

Around mid morning, it is important to keep the body's rhythm going by getting adequate amounts of sunshine. Take a 20 minute walk outside or eat a health snack in the outdoors. Generally, this is most successful at maintaining your energy level if done within four hours of waking.

Of course, we all know to eat a healthy lunch with low carbohydrates and high protein but, avoid consuming coffee and other caffeinated drinks in the morning and at lunch. Instead, conserve the caffeine intake for later in the day or not at all. In my case, since I am most lethargic in the mid afternoon hours, it is recommended that I use this time to consume one cup of coffee, diet soda or iced tea.

As the day wears on, move back into the outdoors and get adequate amounts of sunshine for, at least, 20 to 30 minutes by taking an early afternoon walk and eating another healthy snack.

  • Walking for 20 or 30 minutes, in the afternoon, can boost energy level
  • Sunshine is important for energy levels in the morning
  • Coffee should be consumed in the mid afternoon to boost energy levels
