Iowa High School Football: Mississippi Valley Conference 2007 Preview, Part II
Embed:
With the first part of the Mississippi Valley Conference football previews complete, it's now time to take a look at the remaining teams, and see if they have what it takes to make a run not only for a conference title, but a playoff birth as well.Washington
The Warriors are coming off a very respectable season in '06 finishing the year with a 6-3 record and just missing the playoffs. Washington relies heavily on their passing attack, but is also very dangerous running the ball. Look for junior standout Keenan Davis to have a monster year for the Warriors. He has already been offered a scholarship by the University of Iowa, and is also receiving major attention from other universities as well. Davis plays wide receiver and made a huge impact for Washington last season as a sophomore. The Warriors will have one of the most athletic teams not only in the conference, but also in the state. Look for a really big match-up when the Warriors take on the Little Hawks of City High in week 7.
Prediction: 8-1
Cedar Falls
The Tigers had a great season in 2006, and will be returning 10 starters from that team that made it to the quarterfinals in the state playoffs. Most of those returning starters were defensive players, so look for their defense to be tough as nails. It also helps that Cedar Falls has the most unique home field advantage in the state by playing their home games in the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls. The UNI-Dome is home to the Panthers of the University of Northern Iowa, and this can be very intimidating to opposing teams. The big question mark with this squad will be the consistency on the offensive side of the ball. The Tiger offense needs to move the ball to give that tough defense some time to rest. If the Tigers can get some solid production offensively, then they will be a very tough team to beat, especially at home.
Prediction: 8-1
