Tejava Premium Iced Tea: Plain, Simple and Perfect

Sick of Sweetened Iced Teas? Try Tejava!

Growing up in New England, drinking tea (hot, year 'round and iced in the summer) became a part of my way of life at an early age. For many years now, iced tea has become my favorite beverage, year 'round (after some hot coffee in the morning, that is.) Problem was that for many, many
years I could not find a prepackaged unsweetened iced tea on store shelves. I tried so many different types and brands, I nearly made myself ill. Whether using sugars or artificial sweeteners, I found them all to bee just too sweet. What they offered, often in the guise of being mislabeled as 'natural', was a big dose of sweetener in an nearly untastable tea of one kind or another. I resigned myself to brewing iced tea at home for myself, using plain old tea bags.

Then, I got lucky. On a trip to a local Trader Joe's store, I found Tejava on the shelf. Available in either six-packs of 12 ounces each or in a full liter size bottle, Tejava is exactly (and only) what it claims to be, "Handpicked, Microbrewed and Unsweetened." I don't really care too much about the first two labeled terms, but the third caught my attention. Suspicious, as always, I read the ingredients. As you know, the FDA requires all food products to provide a complete list of ingredients, and Tejava's include only the following: Pure Java Tea brewed from water and select Java tea leaves." That's it!

I buy it in the liter bottles by the case and always have a couple chilled in the fridge. I drink it on ice and sometimes, when the mood strikes me, I might add a teaspoon of sugar - but only if I feel like it. More often, I drink it as it is. It has a deep and rich tea flavor - not as sharp as my home-brewed Lipton traditional tea from bags. There are, of course, other unsweetened teas available, but the rest are available only dry and require brewing. Tejava is just exactly what I want, straight from the bottle. How much sweetening you want and of what type is entirely up to you, the drinker - as it should be!

So, if you crave plain, unsweetened iced tea and have either given up on the idea or have taken to brewing your own - there is a good alternative choice. It is Tejava. Give it a try - You won't be disappointed.

Tejava is great plain and with proper cane sugar it makes the most amazing sweet tea you will ever taste. Unfortunately I can't really enjoy it as I'm completley off caffeine.

I LOVE this tea, I have been getting it from Stater Brothers for $.99 a liter I gave up sodas and I dont even miss them as long as I have a bottle of this around its strong enough to poor over ice and still be good after all the ice melts and when im in the mood for something sweet I add a spoon full of sugar. I recomend this to any Tea drinker, and its so so much better for you then all those other teas with 30+ grams of sugars/sweetners per bottle.

also grew up in new england (jamaica plain) i love it. since being diagnosed with celiac disease in 05 and cutting out the gluten, i have also found it hard to take too much sugar and have gravitated more and more to unsweetened items. Tejava is awesome and I can drink a liter a day no prob. a big glass with ice and a dash of lime juice is what i like. great product

Without question, the BEST of the bottled teas. Drinking Tejava with a few drops of sucralose to sweeten it, gives me a calorie free beverage that has gotten me completely off soda pop. I buy it from Trader Joe's by the case. It reminds me of growing up with pitchers of iced tea on the patio. It's quite simply, perfect.

I make a monthly run to Trader Joe's, about 1.5 hours round-trip, just to pick up a case of Tejava. I can't believe people prefer Crapple iced tea, give me unsweetened, slightly bitter Tejava any time.

Nice review, David! I hadn't tried any of the Tejava stuff before (gone are the days when there were only like 6 choices of drinks in the local grocer's fridge!). Must have a go at this (after all, I'm practically addicted to the Thai iced-tea at the restaurant around the corner). Thanks! :o) Smorg

Hi Deborah- Every once in a while, especially on my way home after a particularly long day at work, I over-ride my better judgement and stop at a local McDonalds drive-through. I ALWAYS get indegestion! But you say the tea is worth a try - OK.... I'll try it! David

Hey Handel- Thanks! Yes, Tejava does have caffeine in it as does most black or dark teas that have not been specially treated. And, yes, I saw the Andy Rooney piece - we actually figured that one out a while ago and switched back to tap water where, thank goodness, where we happen to live is very good! David

sounds great! beleive it or not, mcdonalds is advertising their sweet tea and i thought it was going to be nasty...it actually tastes like a fresh tea that has been lightly sweetened (you can still taste the fresh brewed tea! i love a good cup of iced tea!
