We're going to guide you through the process of severely cutting the risk of gallstones but first, a quick overview of the gallbladder and such so you understand the lay of the land, so to speak.. As you know, the gallbladder is attached to the liver and stores bile, which breaks down food for you. These stones form when there is too much cholesterol for a person's stockpile of bile to address. Contrary to popular belief, the cholesterol that causes most of the problems is not from diet, but from the cholesterol created by your liver for the execution of bodily processes.
Gallstones range in small from very small, almost pebble-like, to large golf balls that Tiger Woods swings at every sunny day. Most cause no problem at all, many people living their entire lives without knowing that their gallbladder possesses Titleist-sized gallstones. But for those who do know they're there and feel them, boy, they are a painful menace!
How do you cut your risk almost tenfold? Well, start by exercising. Couch potatoes are much more likely to develop gallstones as compared to people who exercise regularly. This goes hand in hand with addressing obesity, which is certainly an issue that has been proven to induce the formation of gallstones.
Ingest moderate amounts of tuna. Yes, tuna has been proven to help reduce the risk of gallstones thanks in part to fish oils, whose omega-3 acids also assist in breast cancer reduction. Thus, tuna is a healthy choice for a variety of ailments. Considering that women over the age of 40 comprise the largest faction of those afflicted with gallstones, the fact that tuna helps in both breast cancer and gallstones is a double dividend!
Watch that dieting. Yes, if you begin dropping weight too quickly, you begin to stockpile fat stores which are activated in response to the weight loss process. Your liver works more briskly and produces added cholesterol, which INCREASES your chance for the formation of gallstones. So steady and slow wins the race with weight loss.
