Following more than half a decade of eager anticipation, the Snoqualmie Native American Tribe, operating as the Snoqualmie Entertainment Authority, has finally broken ground on what will become the tribe's casino and entertainment center. In a press release issued on Monday, the tribe points out that even though the ground breaking has just occurred, the property has already broken a number of records for tribal casinos, such as being the first casino on the East side of the City of Seattle.
The ability to construct the entertainment complex has been a long battle that the tribe worked towards internally for decades. The first strides that the American public saw came in early 2001, when the Snoqualmie Tribe petitioned the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs to list the desired location for their casino as being reservation property.
Since that time, the tribe worked closely with the City of Snoqualmie, just outside Seattle, to improve city infrastructure to the point where a large casino and entertainment complex could be constructed. This included everything from improving the city's water and sewer system to upgrading the Snoqualmie emergency management system. Following these upgrades, the tribe cleared it's final regulatory obstacle in March of last year, when the Bureau of Indian Affairs approved their petition to add the desired land to the reservation for the purpose of constructing a casino gaming facility.
