Brammo Motorsports launched the world's first production, plug-in battery operated motorcycle Tuesday. The new motorcycle is c
alled the Enertia and will also be zero-emissions, which is a welcomed change in the motorcycle industry.
Brammo's goal is to create a momentum for change in the way vehicles are conceived and created, according to Brammo. That goal led Brammo Motorsports to the development of the Enertia.
The Enertia has a range of 45 miles, which is exceeds the average American commute of 29 miles a day, which was part of the development process when the Enteria was first conceived. A full recharge for the battery takes about three hours, according to the press release. The Enertia uses six lithium-phosphate batteries from Valence Technology, according to Brammo.
The Enertia uses a carbon fiber chassis which makes the motorcycle very strong but also very light-weight, with a total weight of 275 pounds. This chassis, according to the press release on prnewswire.com was an idea that the designers of the motorcycle took from the racing industry, which also uses carbon fiber chassis in their vehicles. According to the press release prnewsire.com, the new motorcycle can reach a top speed of 50 miles per hour.
Paul Seredynski of MSN autos said, "For those looking to make a lifestyle change, or for a cool 'green' machine to get around town on, few options exist that can compete on so many levels." The new motorcycle is innovative, has an excellent battery life for the industry, and offers a style and quick battery charge time that many consumers of electric vehicles will find engaging. The motorcycle is also expected to attract new consumers that have not previously been interested in electric vehicles since the motorcycle is the first of its kind.
