Toshiba Dynabook SS RX1 Laptop, the Lightest of Them All

The Toshiba Dynabook SS RX1 Laptop is the first of its kind to be the only contender that weighs no more than 800 grams and a thickness of nearly 20mm in its silver magnesium casing. Released in Japan, it truly began the revolution to make computer portability a promising prospect.

After looking into the images sent to me by a relative living in Japan, I could only look at the various views of the laptop from every angle and inch of it. The keyboard seems to be in a tad smaller side, though big enough to meet most fingers. A 12-inch display
may not wow anyone, but given to how much power they can place into this laptop, I would say I'm impressed. Powered by Intel's 1.06Ghz Core 2 Duo and running on Windows XP (or Vista), you can be sure it's worth the wait. The LCD screen has a WXGA resolution (1,280x800) and includes the usual connections such as an 802.11 Wi-Fi, Ethernet port, 3 USB 2.0 ports, iLink, as well as a monitor socket to hook the laptop to a bigger LCD display and a microphone and headphone socket. A multi-DVD drive is included in the package for those who want to watch movies on the road.

What makes it even lighter is the laptop's usage of a solid-state- drive (SSD) and similar to the Game Paks that Nintendo manufactures for the Nintendo DS and DS Lite and has a storage capacity of 64Gb that makes for a quieter, faster, and energy efficient storage media. Though the space may not be large for some, to others it's more than enough to carry reports, documents and some tunes and movies on the go. And if sunlight gets in the way with using the laptop, there's a switch under the display that turns off the backlight.
