We are always told that first impressions are important so, as you may already know, job interviews are an important essential to getting a job. An interview is what introduces you to your employer; it allows your employer to see who you are and get a general idea on what kind of employee you will be. It is also a time when you can mention things about yourself that may not have been added onto the resume. In short, while a resume or job application may say a lot, in many cases, the interview is the main factor as to whether or not you get hired.

Your Appearance

One of the main aspects of an interview is appearance. Although we often wish we are judged by who we are inside rather than outside, sadly this is not generally the case. Your appearance should say that you are organized, confident, friendly, willing to work hard, and you know where you are going with your life. Jeans and a t-shirt might be comfortable when at home or hanging out with your friends, but it is not a recommended attire for a job interview. For males, one should try to dress in at least slacks, a button-up dress shirt, and a tie (if not a stylish, yet practical, suit). Women may wear either slacks or a tasteful skirt, but try to aim for a skirt that is about knee length - this way, it is not dragging on the ground, nor is it exposing too much skin.

Also try to stay in a subtle color range, nothing too bright. It is best to go with a solid neutral color, such as a soft dove grey, and then add another color to accent the outfit, like a pale blue tie or a necklace. You will also want to consider a nice pair of shoes, rather than worn out sneakers or beachcomber sandals. Comfortable loafers, dress shoes, or pumps work well - try to avoid stilettos or heavy work boots.

And always... ALWAYS... arrive early for the interview. anyone who arrived even 3 minutes late to an interview with me automatically lost the interview completely.
