BET's "Hot Ghetto Mess" Too Controversial for Broadcast Television
Two Sponsors Have Dropped Their Ad Spots from the Controversial BET Television Show
BET home viewers are able to submit home videos to BET cable television for possible inclusion in BET's latest television show entitled "Hot Ghetto Mess" which will be a blend of reality TV and interviews with black people that BET claims will inspire viewers to improve their communities through giving negative and positive feedback regarding their poor circumstances in life.
"Hot Ghetto Mess" is a six-episode series that Charlie Murphy, brother of Eddie Murphy, will be hosting. The show is based on an outrageous web site that has always featured photos of ridiculous hair styles, and mind-numbing hip hop clothes that is atypical of the more subdued fashion statements of quality hip hop stars such as 50 Cent or Dr. Dre.
BLACK WOMEN ARE NOT AMUSED BY THEIR DEPICTIONS ON "HOT GHETTO MESS"
Many media watchdog groups that have black women in their ranks are taking up arms against BET's production of this new show. They claim that "Hot Ghetto Mess" is portraying black women in very demeaning terms and they accuse BET of profiting off of horrible portrayals of African American women that plenty of other Hollywood producers have been accused of doing in the past.
BET managers have fired back in response by stating that all groups of people are depicted in "Hot Ghetto Mess" and just because a few media groups are up in arms about some of their show's comedic antics is no reason to cancel the series before all people can decide for themselves just how much bad taste is being represented in their new BET show.
TWO SPONSORS HAVE ALREADY PULLED OUT OF "HOT GHETTO MESS"
State Farm Insurance and Home Depot recently asked BET to drop all advertising from the ad spots that they already had in place during the new BET show's July 25th premiere. All of the other advertisers that will continue to keep their ad spots during the show's debut have simply decided to wait and see what the general audience's reaction will be to the shenanigans going on in during the new show's debut.
