Every mother hopes to have a safe labor, delivery, and baby. Women also a painless labor and birth, but this typically is not the case. Let's face it. We don't call it labor for nothing. It is hard work! As a mother of four, I can attest to the unpleasant side of labor and delivery.

Most mothers choose to travel to the local hospital to deliver their child/ren when the labor pains become severe or a few minutes apart. Any mother who has told her partner that the baby is coming is completely aware of the chaos that quickly ensues. The media loves to portray this event in movies and sitcoms. The father is rushing around grabbing bags and suitcases in a scramble to the hospital. It often winds up with the pregnant lady still at home when the father realizes what has happened.

Pregnant mothers are turning to home birthing options. Whether their reasons are for comfort and convenience, cost, or chaos, home births are rising in popularity. Women are planning to deliver their babies at home. Frequently, a midwife or doula is called to assist during the labor and delivery process. Such individuals provide support for the mother spiritually and emotionally. If circumstances arise, the midwife, for example, will help. The amount of intervention depends on the circumstances and the relationship between the mother and midwife.

Some women are discovering the advantages of unassisted childbirth. Unassisted childbirth means that no doctor, midwife, or other specialist will be present during labor or delivery. The birth is typically witnessed by the mother only, or possibly the mother and her partner.

Mothers who plan to deliver their child/ren unassisted feel that labor and delivery are natural processes that typically require no assistance. The woman's body was created with childbirth in mind. Philosophies about unassisted childbirth vary greatly, but supporters explain that women have been unassisted during childbirth for centuries.

Takeaways
  • Childbirth is a natural process.
  • Unassisted childbirth allows for privacy.
  • Complications during labor and delivery for healthy women are not frequent.
Did You Know?
Although many areas will tell you that unassisted childbirth is illegal, health departments are typically unable to produce documentation of legal statutes.

Great article. I never plan on having kids, but if I do, I want to be knocked out.

Great article! Unassisted childbirth isn't for me, since I'm a big chicken and can't stand to be alone when I'm in pain, but I think it's awesome for women who are strong enough for it. Nice job. :-)
