As far as movie genres go, comedy is one of the toughest to decipher. There are a great number of absolutely deplorable "comedies" out there, but there are also plenty of good ones as well. It is difficult to choose which comedies will be a hit and which will be a devastating miss that will make you cry yourself to sleep because you spent nearly 20 dollars on you and your date to see the movie.I like a good comedy where I do not necessarily have to think too much. I like quick, witty dialogue and, oh heck, even some physical comedy as well. I DO NOT enjoy, however, comedies that rely on fart noises and belches. Save that stuff for every movie geared specifically for six-year-olds and their tortured parents who have to take them to those movies.
Now, even as 2007 is halfway over, there are still a number of comedies that are going to be released before the year is over. Here are just six that you should be on the lookout for:
I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, July 20th - Put away any thoughts you may have about how offensive this movie may be to some people. When Adam Sandler picks a good role, he is one of the funniest men in Hollywood. When paired with Kevin James and Jessica Biel (who has a, uh, very revealing, scene), this can end up being right up there with the rest of Sandler's top-notch comedies. A movie involving Adam Sandler and Kevin James pretending to be a gay couple has to be funny, right?
The Simpsons Movie, July 27th - Let's hope that everyone involved with the show recaptures the old magic of the TV show. Imagine, if you will, a movie about the Simpsons that is just as clever and riotous as the television show used to be. Yeah, and then imagine it being 87 minutes long. It can be that good.
