If you have ever been out of work and searching for a job, you know the importance of locating the right company at the right time. If you are looking to make a career change, you know that the opportunities are out there and available, but where do you find them? Often, people in search of a job or new position pick up a copy of their local newspaper and scan the help wanted ads. Although this is a good idea when searching for a job in the area, this may not be the best solution. The internet offers a fabulous opportunity to locate jobs quickly and easily.

Word of mouth is the fastest and easiest way to land that new job. If you have spread the news to your family and friends that you are job hunting, then it is time to move on to the next step of the process. If networking has slowed down your career leads, then start searching in other avenues. The internet may be just the way to go.

Searching popular sites for jobs can be helpful, but very time consuming. For example, I recently checked out some writer positions online from a particular site and had 433 jobs to scan and consider. Sure, the opportunities sounded wonderful, but by the time I took a couple of hours to peruse the career opportunities, I found 4 jobs that really suited my needs and interests.

Posting your resume on the internet is a great idea. You can use the internet as a way to attract the companies to you. Instead of you grasping out at companies that may be completely uninterested in your skills, posting your resume on the web for employers is a great idea. This will limit your time driving from company to company filling out unnecessary applications, etc.

Takeaways
  • Focus your efforts on landing the position.
  • Job alerts save time.
  • No need to hunt from the help wanted ads.
Did You Know?
A job alert narrowed my search from 433 jobs down to 4.
