Cyclists will be riding to raise funds for Alzheimer's Research in Boston on Saturday, July 28. The Memory Ride has been organized to raise money to fight the debilitating disease from which over 5 million Americans suffer. Alzheimer's is a disease that attacks the brain. The disease is the most common form of dementia.

Nearly every one of the hundreds of cyclists who participate in the Memory Ride has been touched by Alzheimer's. If asked, cyclists participating in the Boston Memory Ride will probably tell you a story about a parent, grandparent, sibling, or close family friend who has struggled with Alzheimer's. Alzheimer's has affected nearly 120,000 people in Massachusetts alone. The emotional, physical and financial impact of the disease is felt strongly by those affected.

Initially, the Memory Ride was a small and informal family-inspired event. Today, the Memory Ride has grown into to a cycling challenge that attracts riders from throughout New England as well as cyclists from out of state.

The Memory Ride start and finish lines are in Devens, formerrly Fort Devens. The Memory Ride has 100, 50 and 25- mile route options, so a wide variety of cyclists may participate based upon their fitness level and the length of the ride they desire. The 100-mile Memory Ride, or century, loops out towards the Quabbin Reservoir. The century meanders through the low rolling hills and country vistas of the Commonwealth's heartland-- through Devens, Shirley, Lancaster, Sterling, Rutland, Hardwick, Petersham, Templeton, Fitchburg and Lunenburg.

All proceeds from Memory Ride Grant go to Alzheimer's research.
