Latest Gallup Poll Shows Rudy Giuliani and Hillary Clinton with Double Digit Leads
their prospective parties, but John McCain, who was once considered a formidable opponent, has slipped to third on the Republican Side

It is a short six months until the first votes are cast in the Iowa Caucuses and the other primaries that are happening on Jan. 5th. The races for the Republican and Democratic presidential nominations remain pretty much unchanged. Republican Rudy Giuliani and Democrat Hillary Clinton continue to hold statistically significant leads. However, when you get below the top two, there are significant changes on the Republican side. John McCain and Fred Thompson have flipped positions, McCain down to # 3 and Thompson up to #2 . Even though Al Gore has stated that he will not be a candidate, he is still figured into the polls, He would make a difference, but would not change the top positions.

On the Democratic Side
Democratic Nomination

The July 6-8 poll asked Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents who they are most likely to support for the Democratic nomination for President in the next election. They have two results, one with Al Gore figuring in, one without. They accomplished this by taking the respondents who pick Al Gore as #1 and looking at their second choice to determine how the results would be with out him

Here is how that turned out
Clinton with Gore in 37% without Gore in 42%
Obama with Gore in 21 % without Gore in 26 %
Gore 16 %
Edwards 13 % with Gore in without Gore in 16 %
Biden 3 % with Gore in 4 % without Gore in
Richardson 2 % with Gore in 4 % without Gore in
Kucinich 2% with Gore In 2% without Gore in
Gravel 1% with Gore In 1% without Gore in
Dodd Less than half a percent on both counts
5% had no opinion

On the Republican Side

Like they did with the Democrats and Al Gore they figured Newt Gingrich in with the Republicans, but Newt Gingrich only has about 6% support across the board in the Republican party and there was very little difference in the figures with him in or out.
