Tygert Burton Pennington was born on October 19, 1965 in Atlanta, Georgia. He has an older brother named Wynn. You've probably seen Ty on the ABC reality show where he helps a new family every week. He and his crew tear down old houses and replace them with modern dwellings that best suit the family's needs. You only have to watch the show once to find out how creative, energetic and utterly zany the host can be. Haven't you ever wondered about the man behind the name? If so, then read this informative article and find out some little known facts about Extreme Makeover's Host Ty Pennington!

His Childhood
She may be "Mom" to Ty, but his mother Yvonne is "Dr. Pennington" to her patients. She's a "licensed psychologist, ADHD and Depression Therapy Specialist..." according to her website, www.psychology.am/. So it's truly ironic she didn't easily recognize her own son's problems when he was growing up. Maybe she was too close to the situation. Ty Pennington was a handful. He misbehaved and got poor grades in school. His behavior was so bad, that he even got kicked out of his Boy Scout troop!

A little known fact about Extreme Makeover's Host Ty Pennington is that, finally, when he was seventeen-years-old and in high school, it was discovered he was suffering from Type 1 ADHD. At first, Benadryl™ along with behavior modification therapy was prescribed. The Benadryl™ only made him drowsy. Today, he manages his ADHD by taking a daily dose of Adderall XR.

His Education
Once Ty Pennington was properly treated for his disorder, he was able to better control his behavior and earn decent grades. After he graduated from high school, Pennington enrolled at Kennesaw State University where he took courses in art and history. Soon, he switched to studying Graphic Design. Ty Pennington got a job as a carpenter to pay his tuition while he attended the Art Institute of Atlanta.
