I recently read an article in the Post Chronicle written by Alan Burkhart with a title of "Modern Day barbarism: Protecting Our children", July 8, 2007. In his article he pointed out several types of abuse and the abusers of children, I am expounding upon what he wrote because the article fell far short of the seriousness of child abuse. Child abuse is happening around the world, but I will only focus on those abuses which occur here within the United States of America.

I will start with some facts from the Child Welfare Information Gateway from which all data and statistics in this article have been gathered, a repository of sorts of the prevalence of child abuse in the United States. The Child Welfare Information Gateway breaks abuse by type, namely: Sexual abuse, physical abuse, and neglect, and is categorized as maltreatment of children, a seemingly benign word that does not give one the feel or sense of great importance. Children suffer mental and emotional abuse as well but these abuses are integral to the three abuse types just mentioned, so let's focus on sexual, physical, and neglect. The scope of data that I will present is limited from one to several years in duration of studies that compiled the data we will be witnessing here. Let's get started.

What I do not understand is why can no one stop it? I am looking up information for a report on Child Abuse and I keep getting the same thing. The parents beat the child untill they are satisfide or the victom is dead and then they MIGHT get into trouble about it. I have heard about the kids actually having to go back with their abusive parents, even after the parents were found guilty of abuse.

As author of this op/ed you are correct 'An Expert' there is abuse of a child before a person is actually caught or turned into law enforcement, so yes it is fact that all abusers which include sexual, neglect, and physical abuse, are repeat offenders.

Also, don't believe the state statistics of child abuse as they are known for cooking the books. All child abuse referrals (substantiated or not) are reported as child abuse to the state's DHHS. This is then reported to the feds. This practice has gotten so bad in CA that there is now a $400 million federal lawsuit against a certain Bay Area county CPS for "cooking the books". An alert parent caught on after the kidnappers wanted her to sign some papers so they (CPS) could get their funding. She noticed that they were reporting to the feds that they (CPS) had four of her children, when they actually had only one. CPS was trying to rip us off for imaginary children. Now, this county has been exposed and the Family Court judge became so angry with CPS that she opened up all CPS proceedings to the public. Guess what, child abuse stats in this county fell by 50%. It all lies people.

If anyone wants some valid insight into the child protection industry read: This is Child Protection? By Gregory A. Hession, J.D. This article is probably the most accurate article I have read exposing the secretive world of CPS. Ever wonder why the juvenile/family courts are not open to the public, know you will know! State CPS regulations are just for show.

another excellent article. I have been screaming for years about the huge amount of children that are being abused and MURDERED by their parents and caregivers. I read a report called A NATIONS SHAME from the government that said that about 4 children are killed every day in the us. That is staggering. It is appalling. Yet we continue to harp on the SO hysteria and pass feel good, ineffective laws. Mind boggling!
