Our vacation on St. Joe Beach began with a ten-hour trip from our home in Louisiana. We had originally planned to leave early, somewhere in the neighborhood of 5 or 6 in the morning, only to awaken to rain pouring straight down. Knowing that we had to pickups to load with bags and other items needed for this vacation, my husband made the decision to hit the snooze button several more times, until the rain let up and loading the pickups was a doable option. Finally, the storm let up and we got the pickup loaded and were locking up the house only to discover that our kittens, now several months old, had followed us out to the pickup, the one my husband and I would be traveling in and were refusing to come out. If you have never had a kitten climb up into a vehicle, you do not realize how hard it is to remove it from its hiding place. After 35 minutes, a garden hose, lowering the spare tire, lifting the hood and it is still raining; the last kitten finally runs to the house and proceeds to look at us as if we have lost our minds. So, now it is considerably later than we had planned to leave, but we pile in and head down the road, only to climb over our next hurdle.
