Four Odd Autoimmune Diseases

Disease You Would Rather Not Know About

Being a sufferer of the autoimmune diseases Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia, my family is always joking that I will get some fatal, horrible, unheard of immune disease. I figured we had heard of them all, so as a joke, I researched some rather odd ones that I can have, when all
the other autoimmune diseases are used up, or people are tired of hearing about them. Some of these will leave you nauseated; others you will think are made up. But according to the Internet, they are all real autoimmune diseases. Listed are the four, their symptoms and cures, if there are any. The news for most of these odd diseases is not too optimistic. Some of the words are extremely long, so guess on how to pronounce them. Your guess is as good as mine.

Odd Disease #1

Acromegoly: This is known as giantism. Many people do not realize that this is an autoimmune disease, but it is caused by growth hormones that literally never stop functioning. When most of reach between 18 and 22 years of age quit growing, as our growth hormones stop. However, someone with acromegoly, keeps growing. The major problem is, while the body keeps growing, the heart basically stays the same size.Eventually the heart can not keep up with the expanding body. So therefore, the outlook isn't good.It is an inherited disease. Probably the most famous person with acromegoly was Andre the Giant.

Odd Disease #2

Cornu Cutaneum(horn disease): Strange name for an odd disease. This is a hard growth on the outside of the body caused by excess keratin, or the material that makes up the nails. The result, is that some of the growths, rather than looking like tumors, look like horns. Most have to be surgically removed. Sun is known to trigger it, but this also is an inherited disease. The good news is, this autoimmune disease is not fatal.

Odd Disease #3

Very interesting info! When I start feeling bad for myself since I have a physical disability that affects my upper body strength I stop to think of those who don't have arms and hands. There is always someone with a problem more severe and more challenging to deal with.
