A Chicago website is putting the Windy City on the map when it comes it indie music. The site, PitchforkMedia.com, kicked off a three-day music festival down at Union Park in Chicago this past Friday night.

The Pitchfork Music Festival features some great bands and artists such as Sonic Youth, Yoko Ono, and De La Soul. Almost 40 other artists and bands will be headlining the event throughout the weekend down at Union Park.

"Sonic Youth was great on Friday night. They're better than ever and it's great that they're at a music festival like this. This is like nothing I've seen before. It's all about the artists, there aren't corporate logos shoved in your face every 3 feet," said festival-goer Matt Holliday. "With a lineup like that I was going to be damned if I didn't get a ticket for all 3 days."

PitchforkMedia.com expects at least 50,000 people to attend throughout the weekend, especially since the Friday show was completely sold out and tickets for the rest of the dates were bought in advance weeks ago. For a 3-day pass to the Pitchfork Music Festival, it was only $50.

While the Pitchfork Music Festival can not compete with other tours like the Vans Warped Tour, Lollapalooza, or Ozzfest, it's still a force to be reckoned with. With tons of indie bands, it's sure to create and make people recognize the indi scene in Chicago.

And don't think this festival is anywhere near corporate. Company advertisements only bring in about 10 percent f the revenue for the show. Most of it is paid for through tickets and concessions. Don't think that concessions are expensive either. It's $1 for a bottle of water and $4 for a beer. This is extremely cheap when compared to other concerts. Around 380 people will be working at the festival, 160 of them are volunteers.

This is the second year that the Pitchfork Music Festival has gone on, and the bill of bands and artists is even fuller this year.
