Tips for Laughing Off or Getting Past Embarrassing Date Moments

Everyone has embarrassing moments but when you are out on a date, especially your first date, an embarrassing moment could ruin a romantic one. What better way to recover then by making light of the situation with some kind of witty remark. Here are some tips for getting past embarrassing dating moments.

Making a Remark That Hurts of Offends

Assuming that the hurtful remark does not reveal any qualities no one should have to put up with like racism or sexism, but instead it is a " I just put my foot in my mouth kind of moment,' then here is a tip.

Example. You are having a nice conversation with your companion. You asked them, "If they went to college?" They answer, "No." Then you say something incredible insensitive like "I am surprised because you seem so bright." Ouch.

Here is what you can do to turn an awkward moment around. Taking the example above, turn what you said onto yourself, "That was a stupid thing for me to say, but considering that I am a TPWGWAD you should not be surprised." Most people will ask, "What is TPWGWAD is?"

You will say, "The person who graduated college with all D's." If you like the person then say, "When we get to know one another better you will get use to it, and you have my permission to remind me whenever I am acting like a TPWGWAD."

You have humbled yourself, made a light joke, and have gotten the spotlight off the person whom you have embarrassed and on to yourself.

Bad Breath

Every one has bad breath once in a while, so what happens when it happens to your date, or heaven forbid, to you.

Example, suppose your date has been eating something that has unfortunately made their breath go from sweet to sour. They lean in to tell you something, and you inadvertedly grimace and move back. They take the hint and their feelings are hurt, what do you do?

Here is what you can say, "You remember that fairytale where the princess has to kiss the frog before it turns into a prince? It just goes to show that even true love can overcome bad breath."
