The Edgar Allan Poe awards honors the best in mystery fiction, non-fiction, tv, and film either published or produced in the preceding year. This year the 60th Annual Edgar Allan Poe Awards were presented at the Gala Banquet on April 27, 2006 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, New York City.
The Mystery Writers of America issue the Edgar Allan Poe Awards each year. This year the winners were selected from a list of 67 of the world’s most recognized and respected writers of the genre. Entries of over 1,000 books, 500 short stories, and innumerable tv shows were judged by a judges panel of 68. The Edgar awards were named from the Mystery Writers of America’s patron saint of Edgar Allan Poe, whom many consider the best mystery writer known.
The award given out at the ceremony, “Edgars”, reflects accomplishment to the top writers in their field. The event saw Court TV host Catherine Crier, Janet Evanovich, Mary Higgins Clark, Richard Russo, and Josh Olson in attendance, just to name a few. Currently the Mystery Writers of America has a membership of well over 3,000 writers.
