An owl is an interesting creature for kids, more-so for the Harry Potter fan. With this cheap paper craft, kids can make their own owl mask for any occasion.
Use the owl mask for dress up, imagination games, story time, and costume parties.
Make more than one owl mask with different colors.
Parents can use this paper crafts idea for an arts and crafts activity at a kid's birthday party.
Materials for The Owl Mask Paper Craft for Kids
one large and sturdy paper plate
one regular paper plate
one craft stick
craft feathers in natural colors like browns and whites
craft feathers in bright, fun colors for really creative owls
1 sheet of brown or black felt
Tools Needed to Make a Cheap Owl Mask for a Toddler Costume
paint or crayons (depends on the age group and ability)
one glue stick
scissors - the child-friendly kind
one piece of chalk
crayons or paint
Prepare the Materials for the Owl Mask for Kids
1. Adults should cut out the eye holes for kids. Even older kids, who may be great with scissors may have a hard time cutting through the sturdy paper plate. Cut out two eye holes.
Note: if it is too difficult to cut the eyes out, you can skip that part. The mask will be held by a stick anyway, so the eyes are just for fun and don't need to be real eye holes.
2. Cut a pyramid shape out of the bottom of the paper plate. This will leave room for a child's nose and mouth.
This next step can be done by older kids. Adults should help smaller children.
3. Place the square of felt on the table. Cover it with the mask. Use the chalk to mark where the eyes go.
Next, cut the eye holes out of the felt.
4. Glue the felt to the plate. Cut off the excess felt.
5. Glue the craft stick to the back of the owl mask.
6. Cut out two circles from construction paper to make dramatic owl eyes. Cut out the centers.
7. Cut out a pyramid for the nose.
Decorate the Owl Mask
Cut two circles out of another paper plate. Decorate them with crayons or paints
Cut out the middle of the circles, to make the eyes. Glue these circles over the eyes. The hole in the circles should be placed on top of the eyes in the plate.
Let the feathered fun begin.
