Review of "Heart Full of Soul" by Taylor Hicks

This Book is a Must Read

I purchased Heart Full of Soul by Taylor Hicks Thursday; I enjoyed the book immensely and read it in one setting. Taylor Hicks grabbed my interest and kept it held until the conclusion. In fact he has made me want a second volume.

In Heart Full of Soul, Taylor Hicks reveals some very painful years in his life, both as a child and as an adult. A few lines from the books description that really describes the foundation of the book are, "For the longest time, during some rough boyhood years in
Alabama and the grind of performing on the road, the odds against me were discouraging. But there was always a voice inside telling me it was going to get better. In Heart Full of Soul, I share some life stories that will hopefully inspire you-give you a sense of my philosophy and how it drove me. For example, I talk about my good friend who died in a tragic accident and the prediction he made that tugged at my thoughts throughout Idol's qualifying rounds. A lot of great fans lined up behind me the night of the Idol finale. This book is about the strange path that led me to that pop-culture moment, and the sharp directional changes that occurred after that phenomenal night, including touring America, producing an album, and experiencing that two-sided gig known as American celebrity."

Heart Full of Soul is a very interesting and entertaining story of a man's desire and drive to live his dream. The book tells the story behind Taylor Hicks' success that explains both the strength of his character and the charming personality that sets him apart from the rest in the music business. Heart Full of Soul is a straightforward story of how one man believed, devoted himself to his passion, turned his pain into motivation and he is now living his dream.

Taylor Hicks shares with the reader stories from his life. Some of the things this man experienced would have broken the spirit and motivation of many. Taylor kept on though, he believed in himself and what he had to share with the world.

Great review Cindy ! Taylor's story is an inspirational account of what it is like for a struggling musician on that lonely highway to stardom. This is not a sugar coated lesson in perseverence,he touches on the stark realities, actions and emotions of a child and a young man who beat the odds without losing himself along the way.Taylor tells it like it is and I respect that. This book is a must for anyone who is at risk of throwing the towel in.It will give you the inspiration to follow your dreams. In the words of Taylor Hicks " It's amazing what you can achieve when you combine, belief, hard work, dedication and hustle." I posted this review at Amazon too.

I'm not a Taylor Hicks fan but after reading your review I feel like I need to read it. It might show me a new side to him that I'm not seeing. Good article.

Cindy, Thank You so much for your insight on Taylor's book. I, too, being a Taylor Hicks fan was very interested in what he had to say and learn what drives this man. NOW I will definitely purchase his book. Cant wait to read about the beginning of Taylors journey in Life. Thanks again.

I also am one who read the book all in one setting. It is truly a good read. I am so happy for Taylor who has been the underdog all his life, to be able to live out his dream. He is indeed a smart man and deserves all the happiness in life. Thanks for hitting the nail on the head with this review.

I like you, Cindy, read this book in one day. I could not go to sleep till it was finshied. There is something about Taylor on TV, a CD, in concert and now in this book that inspires me to smile and lifts my heart up and give it wings. I really would like another book from Taylor.

I read the book all in one setting because I could not put it down. Caused me to stay up until 3:00 am. It made me laugh and brought tears to my eyes. What more could you ask for other than a sequel one day.

On target review! Loved listening to Taylor (audio version) tell his story TO ME. He certainly has risen above many hurdles thus far and wish him all the joy, happiness and success in the world!

CIndy I think you have summed it up quite well. Like you I read it in one night-and the fact of whether or not you are a member of the Soul Patrol is irrelevant. This book is not JUST for the Soul Patrol-but for ANYONE who has struggled to come to terms with themselves, their life, their circumstances and their motivations. Indeed just from being a member of the SOul Patrol I have become more aggressive in going after the things I wanted than ever before-and since reading Heart Full of Soul and understanding Taylor better, I intend to keep on doing exactly that. Taylor is brutally honest-yet in places rather generic in terms-especially where Idol is concerned-but like you Cindy I feel that his contract limits what he can say and not say. I too laughed, cried, felt sorry for him and cheered with him. If you have a dream to follow and you are or are not a Taylor Hicks fan-you need to read Heart Full of Soul to inspire you to beat the odds and never give up.
