Bio-Fueled Sportscar Named "E85 Viper" Breaks World Speed Record

In a press release published Monday by the SVS company, a manufacturer of computer-controlled engine management and performance systems, stated that 220.7 MPH is now the world speed record for a street car in the standing mile. The car in question was an E85 Viper and the owner of the car is one Karl Jacob.
SVS says that the new world record proves that power and performance do not have to be done away with nor at odds with environmental responsibility in order to make environmentally-friendly and responsible cars.

The news comes at a crucial time.

There are a few ministers in the European Union who are presently proposing that no car that is capable of topping speeds of 100 mph should be permitted to be manufactured, with the exception of special race cars which would be illegal everywhere in Europe except on special race tracks.

The reason for the proposed ban-which would, if nothing else, be a dramatic blow to individual as well as corporate rights and the freedom of ideas in marketplace-is given as "fast cars" being mere toys, socially as well as environmentally irresponsible, increasing the risk of accidents while polluting the atmosphere with too many alleged greenhouse gases.

A sportscar that can go fast but burn biofuels instead of air-polluting petrol (gasoline) would shoot down a major part of the aforementioned argument for banning "fast" cars (which, under the proposed strictures, would even include sedans such as Honda Accords or Nissan Maximas).

Furthermore, if the car's success can be repeated consistently, it will show the validity of "green" biofuels, ultimately inspiring more drivers to be friendly toward them and more companies and scientists to further develop biofuel technologies to make them affordable and practical to make.

At present, oil and gas giants such as B.P. (British Petroleum) are investing billions of dollars into research and development into biofuels. Biofuels are fuels that would be used to power machines that have internal combustion engines, but which are made from trees, grasses, or agricultural crops instead of from oil or coal.
