"Migente" was launched around the late nineties by a New York City based company called "Community Connect". In the beginning, it wasn't that big due to the fact that not many people were surfing online. But since this is the technological age where technology is accessible, more people are online. In turn, it means that more people are on such sites such as Myspace.

Migente was one of the predecessors to such communities such as Myspace. This is one of the many projects launched by Community Connect. It's very noticeable because the formatting is very much the same with that of Asian Avenue and Black Planet. The nature of Migente is to reach out to the Latino community domestic and abroad.

It's an online community geared towards connecting bridges between the different Latin communities such as Mexicans, Mexican-Americans, Puerto Ricans, Cubans, Dominicans, Guatemalans, Venezuelans, and so forth. There are so many people of different Latin nationalities that frequent the site everyday. It seems to be extremely popular with the Latino community.

I felt quite at home at Migente though I'm not Latino. The first website by Community Connect I joined was Asian Avenue. I happen to be a Vietnamese-American with a bit of Chinese blood in me. But I do have a huge attraction towards Latinas or Latin-females. Yes, I'm very attracted to the Latinas.

It was very popular. There were more people logged onto Migente a day than people who were logged onto Asian Avenue. I had wondered if the same people who created Asian Avenue had a community for Latinos. The second website by Community Connect I joined was Black Planet. Most of my friends happen to be Black and Latino, in a sense I share a lot of things in common with them.

The most popular things were the forums. They would address very political issues and other news reports especially if they affected the Latino community. Like Asian Avenue, the Migente forums had plenty of heated debates. Forums are great for community websites because people got to get their views across.
