Gerber Baby Cereal RecallThe U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a press release announcing the voluntary recall of Gerber ORGANIC Rice and Gerber ORGANIC Oatmeal 8 ounce cereals due to a potential choking hazard. Gerber Products Company is a division of Novartis Consumer Health. The Gerber Products Company has received complaints about infants choking on the cereals, but so far, there have been no reports to the FDA of serious injuries.
The codes found on the bottom right side of the cereal boxes for the products being recalled are:
Gerber ORGANIC Rice UPC Code 15000 12504
Gerber ORGANIC Oatmeal UPC Code 15000 12502
According to the FDA press release, the products were distributed in the United States, Puerto Rico, and the Caribbean. Some of the product contains lumps of cereal that do not dissolve in water or milk. Consumers who have these products should call the Gerber Parents Resource Center at 1-800-443-7237 or 1-231-928-3000 to receive a full refund.
DentFresh Toothpast Recall
The FDA also issued an URGENT voluntary nationwide recall of DentFresh Fluoride Mint Toothpaste 9 ounce (255g) size. The FDA says the product made in China may contain a poisonous chemical, diethylene glycol (DEG) that is used in antifreeze. DEG is a central nervous system depressant and also can be a potent toxin to the kidney and liver.
The FDA is concerned about certain populations such as children and people with chronic kidney or liver disease, and their potential health risks from exposure to DEG from accidental swallowing of the toxic chemical. The FDA says to date, no injuries or illnesses have been reported in connection with DentFresh Toothpaste, however, the FDA strongly advises that consumers stop using the product. They should either throw it away or return it to the store. The FDA is asking retailers to quarantine the product and notify customers of the recall. Questions about the recall can be directed to DentFresh U.S.A. in Miami, Florida at 305-677-9938.
