Chicago and the surrounding area have seen a wide array of different weather this summer. The city has seen extreme heat waves, heavy rain and storms that have knocked out power for days, and even some gorgeous 75-degree days. But this wacky weather is not over yet.According to weather.com, a severe flood watch that started on Monday continues throughout the Chicagoland area and surrounding counties through Tuesday. These severe thunderstorms and heavy rains are expected to hit most areas in two waves, the later one supposedly being more severe of the two.
Around 3:15 p.m. on Monday afternoon, the floodwatch was instated for Cook, DuPage, Lake, Kankakee, McHenry, Will and Kane counties and could last until late on Tuesday and possibly Wednesday. All of the counties are in the northeastern part of the state of Illinois. According the to the National Weather Service, the watch also effects DeKalb, Grundy, Kendall, Iroquois, Grundy, Ford and LaSalle counties.
The storms are predicted to move into northern Illinois from northeastern Iowa before 1 p.m. Although the storm make weaken and become less severe as they travel eastward, the second wave is expected to hit Chicago and the surrounding suburbs Tuesday night and possibly early Wednesday morning.
"Back when thunderstorms hit on July 10th, our power went out here in Naperville. Although we did not get it as bad as some people who had their power out for over a day, it was still a pain. Then just a few days later the rain took effect and cooled down the area to a comfortable 75 degrees. And before all this happened we were having a crazy heat wave. I guess that's just Chicago," said suburban Naperville resident Sarah Heimber.
With the flood watch instated, many people are already bracing for what the high amounts of water could bring.
