Benoit Had Steroids, Other Drugs in System
According to reports Pro Wrestler Chris Benoit had steroids and other drugs in his system when he died.
Benoit killed his wife and son before hanging himself last month in his family's home outside of Atlanta, Georgia.
According to a report by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Benoit's body contained elevated levels of testosterone, which appeared to have entered his body through an injection. Tests also confirmed that Benoit's body contained Xanax, a prescription anti-anxiety drug, and hydrocodone,
United States of America a painkiller. Also according to the report there was no alcohol in Benoit's system at the time of his death.
Dr. Kris Sperry said that Benoit's seven year-old son was sedated when he was killed and that his wife had prescription drugs in her system.
Sperry said that while steroids were found in Benoit's system, they did not necessarily play a role in the double murder-suicide that took place in the home.
Benoit killed his wife by strangulation on Friday night, killed his son by smothering on Saturday night and on Sunday he hung himself with the pulley of a weight machine.
After the murders anabolic steroids were found in the home, which led to speculation that the steroids played a part in the deaths. A common side effect of steroids, called "roid rage" was one of the leading theories about why these acts were committed.
Benoit' family was also found to have had drugs in their system at the times of their deaths. Benoit's wife was found to have had Xanax, hydrocodone and hydromorphone, another painkiller, in her body at the time of her death and Benoit's son, Daniel, had Xanax in his system.
According to investigators a steroid test could not be performed on the son because of a lack of urine.
In another development in the case, Benoit's doctor, Phil Astin, was arrested and charged with illegally prescribing painkillers and other drugs to patients other than Benoit.
Astin has said that he had prescribed testosterone to Benoit in the past but he would not say what he prescribed to Benoit when he visited his office on June 22, the day of his wife's murder.
