Believe it or not, there is more to higher education than just drinking. I realize this may come as a shock to some people, but it is true. College is most certainly not like high school in many regards. If you were able to just breeze through high school doing whatever you pleased, that will not be the case when you go to college. In order to get good grades (and potentially more money in scholarships), you will have to put in a lot of time working hard.

A lot of your time will be spent writing papers and making sure you follow a particular approved writing format. Unfortunately, it doesn't end there. You will also be reading chapters from your textbooks and doing whatever else your professor throws at you, including extra research/readings. And when it comes time to take a test, get ready to study like you have never studied before.

Of course, these are all steps that you will want to take if you want good grades. If your main objective at school is to "party hard" endlessly, then that's fine. You can pretty much ignore everything I say. There is certainly no guarantee that you will do well in school, but hey, you'll be having a good time! Just remember to keep this in mind: you can party all you want and not have to pay thousands upon thousands of dollars on an "education".

While there is no way to get around the fact that you will be a much busier person in college, that does not mean you will never have time for yourself. If it seems like the only thing you ever do is study or write about dead authors who bore you to tears, then it's time to revamp your schedule.

There is some ridiculous notion out there that you should spend a few hours of studying each night for each class. If you end up doing this, I genuinely feel sorry for you because that is impossible. Imagine taking four classes and having to study eight hours a night. They (by "they" I mean the people running your school) just want you to stay out of trouble, so they attempt to scare you with that one.

Takeaways
  • Sure, college life is hard.
  • It doesn't always have to be so stressful.
  • Make some time for yourself.

great advice. during finals week my roommates and i always took an hour break at night to play our super nintendo haha. it helped to break the stress of cramming for an exam for 10 hours straight.
