Drew Carey Latest Rumored to Host "The Price is Right"
Drew Carey has only been a game show host for a very short time and he has yet to make his television debut as a game show host, yet Carey is the hottest name out there to replace Bob Barker as the host of "The Price is Right."
Carey has been taping shows as host of the new CBS game show "The Power of Ten." This game show has contestants guessing what percentage of Americans act or feel a certain way. "The Power
United States of America of Ten" will debut August 7th.
Carey already has a relationship with CBS as the host of his new game show and the rumors have Carey doing double duty as a game show host. He would be the host of both shows, "The Price is Right" in the daytime and "The Power of Ten" at night.
Such a pairing would not be out of the ordinary. Regis Philbin did double duty as the host of the popular game show "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?" and co-host of "Live!"
Carey's appeal as a blue-collar, regular guy is what is most enticing to the producers of "The Price is Right," Freemantle North America. They also value his experience with having to think on his feet that he gained hosting the hit improv comedy show "Whose Line is it Anyway?"
Drew Carey has recently said that he would be interested in hosting the game show, but he denied that he was close to becoming the host of the show. He also declined to comment on whether or not he was in the running for the job.
It is not likely that Carey would be hired before his new game show premieres. The producers of "The Price is Right" will likely use the first episodes of that show to see what his appeal to a game show audience would be like.
Carey would join John O'Hurley, George Hamilton, Todd Newton and Mark Steines as possible candidates to replace Barker. Former front-runner Rosie O'Donnell took herself out of the running last month.
Carey's new game show, "The Power of Ten" will air on CBS and is offering the biggest prize in television history, $10 million.
Carey is most noted for being the star of "The Drew Carey Show," which saw him play an average worker who worked at a department store and than an internet company. He is also known for hosting the hit ABC comedy show "Whose Line is it Anyway?"
