In a statement released on Tuesday in light of the latest National Intelligence Estimate (NIE), the group known as FAIR (Federation for American Immigration Reform) called for a suspension of the United States' Visa Waiver Program (VWP).To sum up the alphabet soup, the latest NIE warns that in certain areas of the world, al Qaeda has ultimately grown stronger since September of 2001, especially within the last year. Al Qaeda has warned the United States within the last six weeks that it should expect a new attack on its soil that in so many words would dwarf the attacks carried out on the 11th of September of 2001. FAIR fears that the VWP, which allows nationals from 27 different nations to enter the U.S. without Visa passports, would be used as a means of slipping terrorist cells into the country.
The Democrats have quickly pounced on the latest NIE, a new one of which is only released approximately every 15 to 18 months, and blamed the Bush Administration's "ill-advised" war against Iraq as feeding the flames of fundamentalist Islamic resentment of the United States and in turn inspiring scores of new recruits to the cause of terrorist groups like al Qaeda.
Whether or not the Democrats' contention is true, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff has warned that "Europe could become a platform for an attack against this country."
Europe has seen the growth of radical Islamic terrorism in its nations in the last few years as the European Union has tried to remain open to Moslem culture and Moslem immigrants.
Many in Europe are now starting to heavily criticize this open door policy towards Moslems, whose members often have a hard time fitting in with the more secular societies of the Europeans, who tend to favor that religious convictions be kept personal, rather than made social and political.
