Baseball, food, and fun are always a winning combination. On Saturday July 14, 2007, the Annual Adventist Rehabilitation Hospital picnic was held in Frederick, Maryland. The fun began with a delicious cookout. Hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, watermelon and ice cream were enjoyed by all who attended. This terrific dinner was followed by a nail-biter of a baseball game.

The Frederick Keys made a tremendous effort to defeat Lynchburg. Sadly, this was not to be. For the first time since the 2002 season, Lynchburg's 3-2 victory made their series sweep a reality. I enjoyed being with my colleagues from the hospital at the picnic. When explaining baseball to a friend, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I knew about the game. I'm no expert, but I knew more than I thought. Too bad I didn't know enough to turn my knowledge into a day job!

Recently, 12 year old Stacy Shumaker of Mt. Airy was paralyzed in a diving accident. She is currently rehabilitating at the Kennedy-Krieger Institute in Washington, DC. Following the game, Shumaker's family and friends held a raffle to raise money for her care. For more information, please visit http://www.caringbridge.org/cb/inputSiteName.do

For me, the highlight of the picnic was the beautiful fireworks display that ended a fun evening! I had a terrific time! I would recommend attending a Minor League baseball game to anyone looking for some simple and inexpensive summer fun! I look forward to next year's picnic!
