A friend of mine gave me tickets for a comedy show at The Blue Room Piano Bar, located on Peachtree Street in the heart of downtown Atlanta.I was excited because I hadn't been out in a while, and this sounded like just my kind of thing.
Location, Location, Location
My excitement died when we (my fiancée and I) had problems finding the place. Anyone who knows anything about Atlanta realizes that there are way too many streets with the name Peachtree in it.
But, that didn't turn out to be the problem. We had the right Peachtree (Peachtree Street NE, for the record). The Blue Room Piano Bar is located in a shopping plaza. This turned out to be the problem.
Peachtree Street NE is filled with snazzy, chic, upscale bars and restaurants. We passed many of them, frantically searching for the number 2359. But, it didn't appear anywhere.
So, my fiancée said, "It has to be in that shopping square over there." I was like, "It can't be. No bar is going to be over there with the pizza place." Well, lo and behold, it was.
I was disappointed, because I wanted a "night on the town," not a trip to the strip mall. For me, the ambiance was ruined. Anyway, I got over my initial disappointment and once we paid the $15 to get in (we got there late so wound up having to pay anyway), we quickly found a seat among the crowd.
The Inside
Upon entering, you encounter a bar. Roughly 12 feet long, it's surrounded by vinyl-covered bar stools. Directly across from the bar is a seating area. Bar stools surround an area where you can sit and have drinks.
This encases a low-slung seating area, which has sofas and banquettes pushed against the wall. From this seating area, you can see the stage, a small area of roughly six to eight feet wide. In back of this is the deejay station.
The bar is dimly lit, with a predominately red light glowing throughout as the show goes on.
The Food
The food is good, not your normal bar food. We sampled the salmon tortilla, which was filling and extra tasty. Price: $8.95.
