When we think of mobile we think of moving. People today are definitely on the move, so one may wonder how to get them to sit still long enough to get their message or advertising in front of them. For many years businesses have made use of billboards and signs to gain attention to their business. While this method is still very popular today, we also have another form of marketing which is gaining much popularity. This type of marketing is called mobile phone or cell phone marketing. This type of messaging is referred to as short message service.Short message service, or SMS, is a service where one can send up to 160 characters or text to mobile devises. The message sent by this service will not require a mobile devise such as a cell phone to be active or in range to receive this message and in addition, this message will be saved for days. Those who use this service can send their message from their computer using the service as a gateway to mobile devises. SMS, is regulations are like email regulations in that a person must opt in to the advertising. Likewise people are able to opt out of this means of advertising.
With this service one can opt in to allowing companies to send out games as well as tones, jokes, or horoscopes. This type of service is referred to as multi-media services, or MMS. People love to receive new games and ring tones as well as daily horoscopes making this a profitable business. Because people have their cell phones with them at all times, SMS advertising is a great means of getting ones advertisement in front of potential customers at any time of day. As of now those who receive text messages they generally read them as opposed to email or snail mail.
When one chooses to use text messaging to advertise they can easily send many text messages out at a time much like email. When a text message is sent out it is generally read right away, unlike email which can sit for days and may not even be opened at all. When a business uses text messaging they will experience an increased response rate over the traditionally low percent.
