Most people associate Mark Lowry with being the co-writer of the modern Christmas classic, "Mary Did You Know", or his hilarious stories live or on video. But besides all that, the guy can just plain SING. In fact, his new release, "I Love To Tell The Story: A Hymns Collection" could well prove him to be one of the best male singers in the music industry today.

The keys to Mark Lowry's vocal excellence are a smooth, beautiful voice, superb lyrical phrasing, and believability and passion for the lyrics. On this album, that all goes hand in hand with Paul Johnson's expert production and brilliant orchestra arrangements. To bring back a nostalgic feel, some of the songs are done "big band" style ("Count Your Blessings", "Blessed Assurance") or with string accompaniment ("The Old Rugged Cross", "Does Jesus Care?/God Will Take Care Of You"). Mark is well supported with backing vocals by the members of LordSong and other vocalists who have been regulars on Mark's past recordings.

A last-minute addition, "Untitled Hymn (Come To Jesus)", written by respected Christian songwriter Chris Rice, is truly one of the album's highlights. With only accompanying piano by Gordon Mote, Mark gives a deeply touching, emotional performance.

" I Love To Tell The Story: A Hymns Collection" is a must for fans of well-known hymn standards. Several artists have recorded similar projects over recent years, but Mark shows how it should be done: with heartfelt passion and a vocally velvet touch.
