Four years ago, when my mother gave my son a Color Pixter for his 1st birthday, I thought she was a lunatic. Can you imagine paying $75 for a toy for such a young child -- a toy that would no doubt end up broken in a matter of months? I was astounded, to say the least, but my mother was positive that all would be well. As I recall, I vowed that when he destroyed it I would not be the one to replace the toy. I find myself remembering that now, moments after unwrapping and putting batteries into the new Color Pixter, which I purchased to replace the old one.My son is 5-years old now, and that Pixter has been his most beloved toy since it was given to him. It's gone on every family road trip & vacation, to the babysitters and it even kept him entertained when he got bored with the drive-in movie we took him to see last summer. What's more, this little drawing toy has endured abuse that the makers surely never intended. It's been carried around by the stylus, dropped, thrown, stepped on, covered in peanut butter & jelly and even had apple juice spit all over it on a few occasions. Through all of this, it kept on keeping on. No matter how much abuse my son submitted it to or how many times it had to be wiped down it never stopped working.
The fact of the matter is, it's still working. The replacement was only warranted because after 4 years of use, the tip of the stylus cracked and broke off, revealing a bit of threaded metal. The metal piece was wrapped in electrical tape but it still scratched and gouged the screen a little bit. After 4 years, I didn't have to replace it because my son destroyed it; I had to replace it because a little piece of plastic, which endured the occasional added abuse fo being chewed on, got too old and broke.
