My first attempt at becoming a vegetarian happened back a few years ago. I was dating this guy at the time who's mother always wanted to cook dinner when I was over and who was I to complain (college student=broke). Well when I finally decided to cut out my meat, she was more than gracious to provide me with alternatives. Although the comment she said to me, to this day, left a bitter taste in my mouth. "God put those animals here for us you know," she kindly explained. As an atheist I could of struck back with a fire of words that would of cut of my food supply, but I hesitated. Even if God put these animals here for us to eat, I don't understand what made that OK?

Don't get me wrong, as a lover of history I understand that our ancestors would not have survived without meat. Food was scarce, and apparently eating other people is out of the question since we are higher beings.

Sorry, I think you can detect my sarcasm in that last statement.

Anyway, but let's make sure we heard that correctly. Survived. We as a nation have so much excess its appalling and disheartening to hear people tell me I NEED meat to survive. Well, that just makes me want to prove you wrong.

So, starting on this journey I found it important to first get these key answers tucked away for safe keeping:

"Where do you get your protein?"

"Ya, but milk and cheese doesn't KILL the cows."

"So do you get sick of eating salad?"
