In 2005, the Washington Redskins pulled off a 5-game winning streak at the end of the season to earn a wildcard playoff berth. In 2006, the Skins were considered as one of the elite NFC teams to contend for the Super Bowl before the season started. Things didn't go as planned. The Redskins finished the season 5-11 and the defense that was once considered one of the best in the league fell straight to the bottom. The offense struggled under Al Saunders offensive system and could never climb out of the huge hole that started at an easy going training camp and a inept preseason.

What will the 2007 Washington Redskins look like and will they be able to turn their fortunes around? Let's take a look at each unit. I took it upon myself to rate each unit on a scale of 1-5.

Quarterbacks
Now that Jason Campbell is the starter, the Skins will finally have the vertical passing attack they need to keep opposing defenses on their toes. Towards the end of last season, Campbell showed major strides when he started the last seven games. With his size and mobility, defenders will have to keep an eye on him at all times. Mark Brunell is a decent back-up QB at this point in his career, but nothing more. The competition between Casey Bramlet, Jordan Palmer, and Todd Collins will be for the headset job on Sundays.
Rating: 3.5

Running Backs
If Clinton Portis can stay healthy this upcoming season, he will be a major force in the league once again. Only this time, Portis will share the load with Ladell Betts who had a breakout year last season with over a 1100 yards after Portis went down with a broken hand. This duo should scare teams in 2007 and take the load off of young Jason Campbell. Rock Cartwright is a reliable back-up that shines on special teams and Mike Sellers is a powerful fullback that needs more carries in the red-zone.

"tragedy" struck the secondary? While injuries are not what anyone hopes for in preseason...i'd struggle to call what happened a "tragedy"....having someone shot and killed on new years is a tragedy...just my 2 cents....HTTR
