So all your friend play it. Your father plays it. Your boss plays it and now you want to as well. You want to play golf. If you never have before, you're really missing something. It's a sport of skill, strength, finesse, and smarts. It allows you to bond with your friends and relatives, and possibly even score points with your boss. But with a game as popular and played by so many, the question remains: How do I get started? It's a big question and there a close to a million different answers and none of them are really wrong, but most of them aren't all that sensible. Now I haven't been playing golf for a very long time, but I'm a fast learner and there are some things that I've learned so far that I can share with you to make this hobby fun and exciting, as well as helping you to not kill yourself financially.
1. DO NOT BUY NEW CLUBS - I know that they're shiny, and I know they seem real nice but don't be fooled. New clubs buy a brand like TaylorMade or Callaway can cost easily over $1000 for a complete set. Refrain and instead find a used set. Find something that'll cost less than $200 dollars. You can get some complete sets, brand new, for as low as $149. If you have trouble finding a deal like this, check out second hand stores for used sets. If you still can't find anything in your price range, then get yourself a set of irons and a putter. This will truly be all you need for the first 6 months you play golf. You can learn all the basics of the game and you can learn it for less and with less. If you learn how to hit well with your irons, you'll be a better player for it.
