How energy efficient is your home? You may not be doing the best you can to save on energy consumption and costs? The Connecticut Light & Power company has just set up a new program with government funding that helps residents plug the energy leaks in their homes.

With the urgent need for everyone to do their big to conserver resources and protect the environment there is no better place to start than right in your own home. Even new homes are using more energy then necessary. If you would like to have your home's energy efficiency tested and improved, and you are a customer of Connecticut Light & Power and a natural gas user you may qualify for this new free energy audit.

Connecticut Light and Power are providing a free service to their customers, that is funded by the state. Approved applicants will be visited at their home where an energy audit will be carried out by a special team. The team will use special equipment to tell you where the most energy is escaping your house. For example they will test for leaks under doors, windows, fireplaces and attics. The team will either seal up the leak or inform you how to do it.

Some of the features of the energy service include duct sealing, advanced weatherization, water consumption controls and the installation of long life low energy consumption light bulbs. Homeowners will also be given a variety of rebates for discounts on energy efficient appliances including refrigerators, freezers and insulation.

You will be provided with some tips on how to make your home more energy efficient such as unplugging appliances that are using energy unnecessarily.

When speaking to one Connecticut home owner about their experience of the energy audit they said that the whole process took a few hours and the team placed insulation on many pipes, changed every light bulb to a long life energy efficient one, filled gaps between wall and floor boards with caulking, installed a water saving device on the faucet, provided rebates and offered helpful energy saving advice.
