Several Ways to Reduce Your Electric Bill

Who would not like to save a little extra money, especially now with all of the rising energy costs. There are several things you can do around your house to help you do just that. I have put into practice several of these things, and plan to implement even more down the road.

The first thing I did was to change all of my light bulbs to compact fluorescent bulbs. You know, the ones that look funny and are more expensive than the regular ones you buy. Even though they are a bit more expensive to begin with, they can actually save up to three quarters of the electricity that an incandescent uses. They come in several sizes and styles to fit many standard fixtures, I even managed to find some to go in my recessed lighting. Now, I will tell you that they do give off a different sort of light than you are used to, but it did not take long for me to get accustomed to it. If you look at the package it will tell you what the bulb equals to in standard wattage. Shortly after I began using these bulbs, I read that they have high levels of mercury in them. Upon further investigation, I found that while they do contain mercury, it isn't a high level, and if disposed of properly, should not be a problem. Just check with your local waste management.
