FDA Continues to Advise Against Tainted Veggie Booty Snack Food

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) continues to advise consumers not to eat any Veggie Booty and to throw away product you may have. Robert's American Gourmet, of Sea Cliff, N.Y, markets veggie Booty. The company makes a variety of food snack sold in food stores, health food stores, supermarkets, and vending machines. They products are very popular with mothers with small children.Veggie Booty snack is a baked vegetable snack made of kale, broccoli, spinach, carrots, and cabbage. This snak food is seen as fun way to incorporate vegetables in children's diet.
Initial suspicious of Salmonella Wandsworth bacteria being the cause of contamination on Veggie Booty products has been confirmed by intense and specific lab testing at the Minnesota Agricultural Research Station Laboratory.
A total of 60 persons have been reported sick from the Veggie Booty contaminated products in 19 states (California, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Vermont, Washington, and Wisconsin) according to The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). New York was the state with the most cases (15). No deaths have been reported and five hospitalizations were needed in this outbreak.
This is not the first time that Robert's American Gourmet has been involved in a food recall. In 2002 improper food nutrition information reported on its nutritional labels caused an immense food recall for its products.
Symptoms caused by Salmonella intoxication include diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever. Complications are possible especially if Salmonella gets into the bloodstream. Adults with compromised immune systems, children and the elderly are particular susceptible of such complications. Death may be possible. Consult with your doctor if you have eaten Veggie Booty products of any kind.
