Saltspring Island is an island in the Gulf Islands of British Columbia, Canada. It is the largest and most populated of the islands. [1] Its beautiful surroundings, local events, and reputation as an artistic community have made it a travel destination for many people around the world. While you are there you should stop by some of these attractions. The island is best known for its large concentration of artists. The island is renowned for its galleries and art communities. Among the more popular artists who live on Saltspring Island are Robert Bateman, Sky Lee, Brian Brett, and Randy Bachman.

One of the most popular towns on the island is Ganges. In Ganges you can find several art galleries in a small area near the Ganges Marina. If you're mostly interested in seeing the products of the many local artists, you should check out the Artcraft and the J Mitchell Gallery. Both of these galleries specialize in art by those who live on the island.

After you've soaked up the local town culture, it's time to head out to experience the overwhelming beauty of the island. You'll have several options for ways to see the area. You can rent bikes or motor scooters in Ganges. Since most of the island is fairly flat, you only need to be an intermediate biker to travel from town to town this way. The island is well known for its hiking. Go out to Ruckle Provincial Park to see the woods. The park keeps a well maintained trail systems and camping ground. You'll also want to go to Mount Maxwell Provincial Park. Here you'll find a 180 degree view from the top of Mount Maxwell. The peak is 1500 ft above sea level, so you'll be able to look out as far as the mountains on Vancouver Island. [4]
